Is it just me or do we as designers like variety like it really is the elixir of life? I try so many things it’s not funny. I hate eating the same meal twice — I always have to cook something different. (It drives my partner nuts.) I must have at least 50 unfinished books I’m still reading. 17 unfinished DIY projects around the house. 20+ unfinished courses. Boxes of paints and blank canvases with not a painting in sight.

How many nights do you lie awake staring at the ceiling stressing about how to pay your suppliers, staff, taxes, rent, house, car payments, school fees, heck even just to put food on the table sometimes — worried sick about where the next lot of cash is coming from? I remember my first time. Nerves. Confusion. Sheer palm-sweaty, nerve-racking, eye-twitching terror. All these manic thoughts running through my head. Constantly. Non stop. Every time I awoke in the morning. Every night when my head collapsed into my pillow at night. Constantly wondering. No, constantly worrying! Am I ready? How do I know I’m ready? Where do I start? Remember that time you created the most amazing logo concepts for that client? You smashed it out of the park. Completely nailed the brief. So excited by your own ability you couldn’t wipe the smirk off your face as you saved the PDF. You. Were. Chuffed. You fire off an email and patiently wait. You know there’s a winner amongst the concepts you’d created and you can’t wait to get a reply… showering you with praise… telling their friends you’re
