Preston, in order to reduce the clutter, does it help to know how much time a web site has to make a first impression? Not much unlike meeting in person, I would gather, but my guess is there has to be a number.

"Simplicity is the Highest Form of Elegance"...

The layout and images on Graphic Design Blender are the reason I'm a subscriber and active reader.

When I redesigned one of my own sites, www.JoeMescher.com, I made sure to cut out everything that didn't provide a boost to the end user experience (it's definitely a moving target though!).

I wrote a post about reducing clutter from the perspective of a social media blogger (happy to read any comments you may have):

Cheers

that is a nice well thought out post. I like points 1 and 2, and think that should really be expanded even more. Read a response I wrote to a critique of the site I manage UX for, zappos.com: http://tinyurl.com/rcrz3o

Couldn't agree more! I wrote a whole book on this same subject, called "Save the Pixel" (savethepixel.org), where one of the principles is "Success = Attention / Stuff"... Visitor attention is a finite, fixed resource, which you can't control too much. But *stuff* you can do a *lot* about. Keep up the great work.

Thanks for making it simple. I find as a new designer I try and put way to much on a page and at the end it seems like its just a mess. Thanks for the tips!
